ANCCE revised buckskin mare. Nomi has been a wonderful broodmare for us, producing exceptional foals. The cross with Feliz has been just what we hope for each time! She has Neonatal Isoerythrolysis which means at some point she was exposed to one of her baby's blood types that was different from her own. Her body developed antibodies against this other blood type. If her newborn drinks her colostrum it will receive those antibodies and become anemic and very ill. This is not hereditary. It is an immunity issue. All of her newborns need to be attended at delivery, fed colostrum from a different source, muzzled. The mare has to be milked for 18 hours with the colostrum discarded. The baby can be bucket fed after the initial colostrum for 18 hours. After that point mom and baby can get back to normal with the baby Nursing From the mom. At the 18 to 24 hour time frame, the baby's gut is closed and can no longer absorb those antibodies and the mare stops producing colostrum and just has regular milk which is safe for the baby to drink. I have been doing this myself here, this will be my third time with her and her babies but you can send the mare to the vet to be foaled out and have this process taken care of for the first 24 hours.
